Energy Gym is owned by Gavin Barry who, with his nephew Craig Smith, lead a team of over 10 Fitness Instructors & Personal Trainers.  Our team is impressive, with specialists in Body Building, Pilates, Dance, Nutrition, Sports Training, Podiatry  & Physiotherapy.  Many of them have worked for the big corporate gyms (Virgin, Pure, Ballantynes, Greens) but have moved to Energy Gym realising that we offer a unique product for both our members and team.

Gavin Barry is the owner and Director of Energy Gym. A former Physical Training Instructor (PTI) at the Scottish Police College, Gavin retired from the Police in 2010 to become a full time Personal Trainer. He is fully qualified, a member of the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS) and a Johnny G Spin specialist. In addition to managing the business, Gavin also takes Spinning and Kettlebell Circuits each week.

Craig Smith has been involved in physical activity from an early age with his first love playing and coaching football. When at college studying Sports Coaching & Development he got involved in his local gym and decided he wanted to work in the fitness industry.  He then attended Stirling University to gain his degree in Sports Studies.  Craig is now a Personal Trainer who works in partnership with Gavin managing the gym, driving our regular circuit and core conditioning classes and also runs children’s sports training camps Play 4 the Future.  Play fhttp://www.facebook.com/pages/Play-4-The-Future/379905275391263

Calum Macaulay also a PT at Energy Gym is one of our body building specialists (he also runs our early morning bootcamps).  Calum’s first love is body building.  He qualified as a personal trainer at just 17, and early on in his career met industry legend Vicky McCann (Ms PNB Pro Natural Universe) who encouraged him to compete which he does with success in amateur body building competitions.  He also trains his Clients to lose weight, get in shape or indeed win body building competitions – check out www.facebook.com/energygym.edinburgh to see photos of one of his clients, Claire Bashford who won Ms Masters Figure 2012 at the Scottish Heats of the British Natural Body Building Federation competition.

Siobhan Melandri is a qualified gym & spinning instructor and has been running seriously tough ‘wet Tshirt’ spin classes at Energy Gym for 3 years. She is also the voice of our popular facebook site www.facebook.com/energygygm.edinburgh, organises events and puts on free ‘EXTRA’ non – scheduled spin classes for our members.

Arran Shiell is also a qualified gym and spinning instructor.  However, Arran is also a boxer who passes on some of his skills at his regular Box-It Fit classes http://www.energygym.co.uk/classes-2/classes/.  If you like traditional boxing training then this is the class for you with skipping, pad work and tough abs.  Why not pop along to chat to Arran about his sport and how this training can seriously improve your fitness.

Neil Hunter, has worked as a trainer and manager at some of the big name corporate gyms including Pure Gym, David Lloyds and OneSpa.  He has a BSC Hons in Public Health Nutrition and is a REPS registered Personal Trainer.  Neil’s specialisms include body building, dance and body conditioning.  Neil is also a nutrition expert whose passion is to help clients to lose weight and/or increase muscle mass.

Nadia Alkoch & Mark Flannigan (Edinburgh Zumba).  Nadia and Mark are a dynamic partnership and have been based at Energy Gym for over a year.  Nadia has a 1st Class Honours degree in Sports and Exercise Science and has been a dance/fitness instructor for over 8 years teaching Zumba, Les Mills classes (Body Combat) and Turbokick.  Nadia instructs both Zumba and Turbokick classes http://www.energygym.co.uk/classes-2/classes/ and also does personal training at Energy Gym. Mark Flannigan, her partner, is a fitness ‘legend’ who has 25 years’ experience working as a dance and fitness instructor in the industry.   Mark is now a pilates specialist having trained with the Pilates Institute and has a sports and exercise science degree.   He has worked with people from all backgrounds and disciplines from athletes to post-pregnancy clients and now runs our Sunday Pilates drop in class as well as doing 121 pilates sessions at Energy Gym.  Join Mark’s Pilates Facebook page to make sure you keep up to date on classes and offers – http://www.facebook.com/MarksPilatesEdinburgh
